Job Description

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible and accountable for the development, procurement, and business management of a product category that delivers sales, gross margin, and inventory turn at a planned contribution to the company total. Develop strategies necessary to achieve the financial plan for the area of responsibility

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop, procure, and manage an assortment mix that delivers established sales, margin, and turn goals.
  • Research the market and competition and propose strategies to compete for more market share.
  • Build strong vendor partnerships. Negotiate costs, co-op, production time, exclusivity, POP, and store training support.
  • Responsible for managing orders to the constraints of the open to buy and fiscal budget.
  • Review orders due/past due weekly; work with vendors to ensure accurate ETA’s on all purchase orders.
  • Write purchase orders; ensure vendor receipt and acknowledgement.
  • Process and enforce co-op agreements to ensure that the company receives credit for all qualifying merchandise.
  • Must be flexible with work schedules and be available, as needed, to work evenings, holidays, and weekends, with or without advance notices.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Formulate bi-annual strategies for category of responsibility.
  • Develop a measureable assortment plan that ties to financial plan with sales, margin and turn.
  • Communicate and partner with DMM to ensure execution of assortment plan at store level.
  • Negotiate product costs and co-op with vendors. Ensure compliance with vendor manual; hold suppliers accountable.
  • Establish product retails with accurate comparatives. Monitor competition and update as necessary.
  • Review merchandise selling weekly; place and/or adjust orders as needed.
  • Manage inventory flow to meet department turn objective.
  • Participate in weekly meetings with DMM and team to set expectations for the week. Complete a comprehensive business recap for these meetings, review with team, and set course corrections and/or new objectives.
  • Work with logistics team to facilitate profitable, efficient receipt and transfer flow.
  • Prepare accurate and timely ad submissions. Review sign-offs to ensure accuracy.
  • Attend ad meetings and communicate strategy to stores.
  • Execute accurate, timely price changes. Meet weekly deadlines to ensure store execution.
  • Coordinate timely product photography with photo studio.
  • Assist store team with product questions and communicate merchandising strategy weekly.
  • Work sales floor as required on special promotion days.
  • Understand and adhere to Company Policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook and Policy and Procedures manual.
  • Any other duties or responsibilities as assigned by management.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

  • Education: 4 Year College Degree.
  • Experience: Retail buying experience preferred.
  • Skills: Strong math competency. Microsoft Office applications.
